Alexandra's form pressed against the crates holding the research equipment as a Geth Patrol passed by, her breath held and hands resting on the only pistol she had thought to bring with her. Today had started perfect, she had come to the planet in the wake of both a small research endeavor but also as a way to visit the place but then of course of all things the geth decide now is the day to attack the research outpost she had decided to come to. It annoyed and infuriated her but she knew using her biotics now would only get her shot and killed with the number of geth around. Really they needed new jobs because this was decently annoying now...

Only three days had passed since the SSV Ravenwing had swooped in to rescue the crew of the SSV Dunkirk. It came as little surprise when they had received reports of Geth activity upon a world that dwelled within the same system. When the information was relayed throughout the crew Varner was quick to volunteer to act as a forward scout and then relay any pertinent information back to the ship. The squad Kael had been assigned to boarded several Kodiaks and in no time were headed out towards the planet. Upon breaching the planet’s atmosphere each of the four Kodiaks split off to investigate various different locations. “I’m picking up signs of a structure two clicks east of here,” Snowden said. The readings that were displayed on the shuttle’s sensors detected energy generated from what she naturally assumed was some sort of facility. There weren’t many things that put off that much of a signal anyway. Varner glanced towards the pilot that sat behind the shuttle’s controls and relayed the information to him. When the shuttle veered off course he had to place a hand on the bulkhead to keep his balance.
She looked up at Varner as he gave her a quick nudge against her shoulder. "Great work." Her eyes quickly fell back to linger on the sensor readings and avoided making eye content again. It was a reaction that Varner missed as he quickly turned and maneuvered over towards the last soldier in his fire team. The two did a quick inspection of their gear during the short time it took for the shuttle to cover the distance. By the time it had touched down a short distance away from what was now visually confirmed to be a facility the three were prepped and ready to go.The exact nature of the facility was unknown to the group which only prompted further investigation. The rhythmic sound of footsteps against the ground sounded as the three soldiers quickly exited the shuttle once its hatch fully opened. A small team remained with the shuttle while Varner and his two squad mates set off. Kael was clad in his typical heavy armor which had been patterned in such a way to provide camouflage with the local environment. Davis’s bulky frame was hidden within similar armor while Snowden favored light armor for increased mobility. “Snowden, take up an over watch position and observe our approach. Keep us informed of any hostiles. Davis you’re on my six,” Varner set before he started his approach without waiting for their responses.
Snowden performed a quick calibration on the scope of her M-92 Mantis as she quickly set off towards a small platform that was raised above the rest of the area and two hundred meters away from the facility. A ruined circular light sat atop the platform which gave her reason to believe it was some form of outer defense structure. Davis quickly brought his M-23 Katana to bear as he fell in step behind Varner. The two approached cautiously as the moved from cover to cover. As they drew close Varner was the first to see the Geth patrol moving through the facility’s courtyard.
He counted ten in all and every single one was just your average Geth unit. A slight smirk appeared upon his face as he started to move out form his cover and raise his rifle. A firm hand on his shoulder caused him to come up short as Davis harshly whispered in his ear. “What’s the plan?” Varner gave him a cursory glance before he primed his rifle for automatic fire. The look on Davis’ face was one of mixed excitement and uncertainty. The man enjoyed a good fight but he also knew when the odds were stacked against them. “I’ll take a direct approach and draw their fire. Take another route and flank them. Snowden will provide support,” he said before he moved out quickly and opened fire on the center of the group.
Davis let out a low curse as he moved around the opposite side of their cover and made a dash for a stack of crates. The initial volley of shots took down two Geth though it did not disable them. Varner took a running slide behind what appeared to be metallic crate as weapons fire from the Geth began slamming into it.
Alexandra was just about to run for it when the sound of gunfire ripped through the air and her eyes shut tight as she thought she had just died. Her mind imagining the shots that had gone through her, the blood that was now probably coming out of her, but yet she felt no pain and opened her eyes as she looked down and was fine. Her body moved slowly as she peered around the crates to watch as the Geth were being shot on and two Geth went down. Her hands closed around the pistol as the men fired at the other Geth that were there and she counted slowly.
She was in fear, for her own life though. She had rarely been in combat and while she did have training with the pistol in her hands it was minimal for protection against a few people, not well armed geth and if these soldiers found out she was cerberus certainly not them either. So she had to do the one thing she could think of in that moment and convince these men that had come to save the researchers she was not cerberus. And what better way to do that than help those that are helping her. Shakily she pulled her body up over the crates she was behind, in plain sight of the alliance marines now. And fired at the closest Geth that was maybe 4 meters from her... to which she utterly and completely missed the first time and had to fire twice more before hitting it through he head.
Problem was by this time the Geth had seen her and were shooting at her, one of their rounds catching her in the shoulder as she cried out and fell down behind the crates again.
Shot after shot tore into Varner’s cover which only enticed him to eat dirt even further. The situation had not exactly unfolded according to plan. While he sat there drawing the fire from the Geth Davis was meant to flank them and then they were to catch the Geth in a crossfire. However, something quite unexpected occurred. The sound of an unfamiliar weapon being discharged might not have been all that uncommon in such a situation. However, the weapon did not sound like the Geth weaponry and he knew it wasn’t Snowden or Davis. He was just about to dismiss it as his imagination until he heard Davis shout out across the comms. “Heck yeah,” he shouted in elation.
Varner quickly tried to peak and see what was going on but he had to drop down or risk taking a few shots to his face. “Davis what did you do,” he quickly shouted across the comms. Did he have an unauthorized weapon? Davis was quick to respond. “ Take it easy. Some woman has joined the fight! She is quite cute…oh well...never mind then,” he muttered. The comms went silent as he no longer heard the weapon being discharged. “What happened?” No sooner had the question passed his lips that a Geth rounded the corner of Varner’s cover and leveled its weapon at Varner.
The young recruit scrambled to get his rifle oriented in hopes of firing first. A shot rang out and he swore he felt it tear into him though his shields didn’t flare up. He stared momentarily confused as he took notice of the large hole that had been torn through the Geth’s head right about where a human’s temple would have been. The machine teetered for a moment before it fell over no longer functional. “She was shot,” Snowden said suddenly. Varner silently thanked her for getting set up so quickly. That still left the problem of the unknown civilian. The fact she was shot could prove problematic. “Did she have any armor or shields?” After a few brief moments Davis keyed up his mic, “Uh… I don’t know actually.”
For a brief moment his green eyes were concealed beneath squinted eyelids. When Varner spoke his irritation was barely held in check. “Well go check dammit!” Davis didn’t reply though he knew the man well enough that he’d comply. Even if he didn’t like it. “Move I have you covered,” Snowden shouted. Her statement was quickly followed by multiple shots fired into the Geth Patrol. It was at that moment that Varner opted to go on the offensive. Like heck he would retreat in the face of the Geth. He had to twist his body at the waist in order to get a good position to fire from. The barrel of his rifle rested against the crate briefly for added support as he opened fire.
While Varner and Snowden engaged the patrol Davis rounded the crates and took a quick look at her for any obvious injuries. “Can you still fight?” Two more of the Geth were disabled and fell to the ground from the combined assault of Snowden and Varner. Varner's shields flared and the capacitors in his armor were nearly taxed as he took a shot along the left side of his helmet. The impact of the shot sent the barrel of his rifle off center and it took off a Geth's leg at the knee. It went down though it was far from being out of the fight. Varner fell back onto his back and he quickly rolled over until his back was to his cover once more. "I told you to move!."

While they shot at the other Geth Alex sat against the one that she now stared at the man in front of her. Alliance. She could tell in a second what the man was with a simple look over before looking past him with a blink and seeing someone getting closer behind him, the Geth aiming at his back as she didn't even speak and raised her hands as her implants went hot and she sent a burst of Kinetic energy into the chest of the Geth as it was about to fire.
Her eyes only then would move to the man with a smile and she nodded. "Im fine, this is nothing soldier boy." She looked past him as she grabbed her shoulder where she had been shot, smiling at the man and motioning with her head that he might want to check that out.
